Bennet Wraps Up “Coloradans Don’t Shut Down” Tour in Estes Park as Host, Busser

October 25, 2013

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today wrapped up his statewide “Coloradans Don’t Shut Down” tour at Mama Rose’s in Estes Park, where he helped the restaurant manage the lunch rush as a host and busser. Mama Rose’s was hit hard by last month’s devastating floods and has been working around the clock to rebuild and recover, though the recent government shutdown has proved to be a setback.

“There is no better place than Estes Park – one of the hardest hit communities by last month’s floods – to highlight the resiliency and work ethic of Coloradans,” Bennet said. “While Washington was shutting down the government and threatening our country’s credit rating over petty political differences, Coloradans were working together to stay open, rebuild, and recover. Coloradans know what it means to fulfill their daily obligations and responsibilities; in contrast to Washington, they don’t shut down.”

While in Estes Park, Bennet also met with local officials and saw some of the recovery work being done.

Bennet’s “Coloradans Don’t Shut Down” tour is aimed to spotlight Coloradans who are working hard day-in and day-out to pay their bills, despite Washington’s antics.

Bennet began his week-long tour on Monday bussing tables at a restaurant in Manitou Springs and riding along with police in Pueblo. On Tuesday, he stopped at a meatpacking plant in Fowler and a John Deere dealership in Alamosa. Wednesday, he helped teach a women’s literature class at South High School in Denver. And yesterday, Bennet was on the Western Slope where he poured beers and fixed bikes in Grand Junction and helped sort onions at Tuxedo Farms in Olathe.
