Washington, D.C. — Colorado U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper honored the families and victims of the Columbine High School Shooting ahead of its 25th anniversary.

Bennet and Hickenlooper introduced a resolution commemorating the anniversary and calling for action to protect students from gun violence at school. Ahead of the anniversary, the senators also joined gun violence prevention advocate Tom Mauser, the father of Columbine shooting victim Daniel Mauser, and Columbine High School teacher Kiki Leyba speaking in front of the U.S. Capitol. On Thursday, Bennet spoke on the Senate floor to honor the victims and call on his colleagues to free America's kids from the threat of gun violence.

“On April 20, 1999, Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado was the site of a devastating shooting that resulted in the deaths of 12 students and 1 teacher, left more than 20 others injured, and forever changed the lives of the family members, classmates, friends and others in the school and community of the victims,” wrote Bennet and Hickenlooper in the resolution. “[O]n this 25th anniversary, the Senate... remembers the victims and honors the survivors of the Columbine High School shooting; and... reaffirms its commitment to fostering safe educational environments for all students.”
