Bennet Celebrates the Start of Hispanic Heritage Month

Washington, DC - Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, made the following statement today to mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs September 15 to October 15. Bennet is an original co-sponsor of a resolution in the 111th Congress commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month and honoring the contributions of the Latino community. He is also an active member of the Senate Democratic Hispanic Task Force chaired by Senator Robert Menendez.

"Colorado's Latino community has been - and continues to be - a vibrant and essential part of the fabric of our state and country.

"Latinos have always worked hard to support their communities and to help move Colorado forward, driven by the values of hard work, faith and family - values all of us, as Americans, share. I know because I've seen it first hand working closely with Latino students, parents and community leaders during my time as superintendent of the Denver Public Schools.

"We can continue to build stronger communities and a brighter future, together, by supporting meaningful health care reform that lowers costs and improves outcomes, expanding access to educational opportunities, improving opportunities for Latino small business owners and working towards comprehensive and common-sense immigration reform.

"All Coloradans can take great pride in the state's Latino heritage and celebrate-not just this month, but every month-the contributions and accomplishments of the many Latinos who have helped make Colorado a better place to work, live and raise a family."
