Bennet: America Must Build on Life, Legacy of Martin Luther King to Create More Opportunity for Future Generations

Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, released the following statement in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Earlier today, Bennet participated in the annual MLK Marade in Denver.

"Dr. King once observed that we are all wrapped in a single garment of destiny, and that vision remains true as we work to ensure that our democracy delivers for all of us - that opportunity does not diminish, but is allowed to flourish and expand for every person in America. To do this, we need to shed old ways of thinking, just as every generation before us has done, and commit to building on the lives and legacies of great leaders like Dr. King. Our discourse should match our aspirations - a discourse that looks to the future for purpose and inspiration and not to the past for distractions or delay.

"As we gather today to celebrate the memory of Dr. King, we must also remember our responsibility to our communities and to the greater global community. We need to work toward consensus and common cause, in the mold of Dr. King's definition of true leadership, and work to make good on the promise of a better life for generations of Americans to come."
