Bennet Statement on Deficit Commission Report

Washington, DC – Michael Bennet released the following statement on the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform’s recommendations to reduce the national debt:

“Washington can no longer ignore what Coloradans already know: We need to get our deficit under control for the sake of our country and our children.

“The Commission’s Report is a substantive proposal that should be taken seriously and serve as a starting point for dialog.  Although I do not agree with everything in the report, it rightfully looks across every aspect of the federal government to get our fiscal house in order.

“The Report also underscores the breadth of the difficult decisions that lie ahead.  It’s time to make tough choices Washington has ignored for far too long.   And I echo the Commission’s call to those with principled concerns about any of their recommendations:  ‘Don’t shoot down an idea without offering a better idea in its place.’

“As the process moves forward, I am committed to working with anyone – Democrat or Republican – to ensure our nation has a sustainable and secure economic future.”
