Senate Adopts Bennet Amendment to Increase Coordination, Effectiveness of Existing Federal Programs Serving Kids

Washington, DC - The Senate today adopted an amendment introduced by Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet to help make the most of existing programs, services, and funding. The amendment requires the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to study and provide recommendations on ways to increase the coordination and effectiveness of existing federal programs that benefit or serve children.

"Kids in poverty face many challenges. While there are many federal programs dedicated to helping kids, it's important that with limited resources we make sure these programs are coordinated, integrated, and effective at serving children," Bennet said. "This study will help us understand what is working and where we can increase coordination and program integration in order to better leverage existing resources. By studying all existing federal programs and services that serve children, we can learn how we can more effectively serve our kids and ensure our taxpayer dollars are doing the most for our kids."
