Washington, D.C. — Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement on Senate Republicans’ government funding proposal:
“Instead of bringing forward a plan to extend the health care premium tax credits, President Trump and Washington Republicans have chosen once again to make it harder for everyday Americans to buy health care for themselves and their families. As a result, I will vote no on their funding proposal.
If Congress fails to extend the tax credits now, millions of Americans, and more than 280,000 Coloradans, will see their health care premiums double, triple, or even quadruple.
Colorado families already face skyrocketing costs on everything from housing to child care to groceries. We should reopen the government, but I refuse to do it at the expense of families who are simply trying to pay for health care. Coloradans deserve better.”
