Washington, DC - Today, Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, announced that the City of Monte Vista is on track to receive $300,000 in federal funding to boost its Waste Water Facility Consolidation project.

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the funding as part of the Interior Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2010. Specifically, the $300,000 in funding will be used for a project to consolidate all wastewater treatment into an existing facility known as the Henderson Wastewater Treatment Plant, eliminating an underused and undersized facility that is currently dedicated to serving residents along the town's incorporated limits.

The move is estimated to save $100,000 per year in operation and maintenance costs, as well as allow the sale of the secondary treatment facility property.

"Maintaining Colorado's wastewater infrastructure is extremely important to our people and to our communities," Senator Bennet said. "This funding will allow Monte Vista to consolidate its facilities and save money in the process."

The Interior Appropriations bill, which includes the funding, now awaits consideration by the full Senate.
