Bennet to Deliver Speech Before Metro North Chamber of Commerce, Call for Bringing Fiscal Discipline Back to Washington

Will Highlight Need for Common-Sense Budgeting Mechanisms Like PAYGO and Deficit Reduction Act of 2009

Will Also Discuss How Health Care Reform Is Urgently Needed to Help Solve Fiscal Crisis

Bennet: We Owe More to Our Kids Than to Leave Them a Huge National Debt and No Plan to Get Out of It

Commerce City, CO - Friday, August 21, 2009 at 7:30 am MT, Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, will speak with the Metro North Chamber of Commerce Development council Breakfast. In his remarks, Bennet will tie the urgent need for health care reform to the long-term imperative of restoring the country's fiscal health. In an effort to help Colorado's small businesses and families, Bennet will say that we must do right by future generations and begin the difficult work of putting the nation's fiscal house back in order.

In early August, Bennet introduced two bills that would provide common-sense frameworks for bringing the budget under control: statutory PAYGO, which will help restore fiscal discipline to Washington by ensuring any proposal to create new spending is paid for, and the Deficit Reduction Act of 2009, which would limit the amount of money that Congress can spend on year-to-year choices and place a yearly cap on the deficit, while fully protecting Social Security and Veterans benefits.
