Bennet: New Reports of Student Progress Show Colorado Public Schools Headed in the Right Direction

Washington, DC - Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado and former Superintendent of the Denver Public Schools (DPS), released the following statement on new reports showing higher levels of enrollment, achievement and graduation in Colorado's public schools:

"More kids are attending our schools, more kids are excelling in rigorous classes, and more kids are on track to graduate. Taken together, this new data shows that the incredibly hard work our teachers are doing every day has our schools and our kids headed in the right direction.

"Colorado isn't waiting on Washington to make progress in our public schools or to implement the kind of changes we need to help our kids get ahead - we're leading the way. And we're showing the rest of the country what we can do to fix a system of public education that is failing far too many kids.

"We still have a lot of work to do in Denver and across Colorado. But these results show that we're moving in the right direction. And they show that when we focus on the needs of our kids and on education strategies that have proven to work, we can create the kind of opportunity we want for every child in this country."
