Bennet Hears from Veterans in Durango, Telluride

Meets Cast, Crew of Film About Helping Veterans Suffering from PTSD

Durango, CO –Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, met with veterans during two events today on the Western Slope leg of his statewide veterans listening tour.

In Telluride, Bennet sat down with veterans featured in the film “Fish Out of Water,”  which highlights innovative and novel methods for helping veterans when they return home.

In Durango, Bennet met with veterans and advocates from the Four Corners region to hear first-hand their concerns on major issues, including access to VA healthcare, services and benefits and the VA’s backlogs.

“Fish Out of Water” is an eighteen-minute documentary that focuses on the connection between nature and healing as veterans, young and old, participate in the Sun Valley Adaptive Sports fly fishing workshop to cope with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental and physical injuries from war.  The film was shown as part of the Telluride Film Festival.

The documentary was produced by explore.org, a philanthropic multimedia organization financed by the Annenberg Foundation that makes documentary films and photographs to showcase extraordinary nonprofit efforts and leaders around the world.

The stops are part of an ongoing tour that has taken Bennet to rural and urban communities across the state. Throughout the listening tour, which was launched in Pueblo earlier this month, Bennet is gathering input and ideas informed by Colorado veterans, not politicians in Washington, on how we can work to fulfill our promise to America’s military men and women.
