Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement after a minority of Senators for the second time in two days blocked action on the DISCLOSE Act, which would create greater transparency in elections through new disclosure rules.

“It is unfortunate that a minority of senators continues to block a bill that would provide disclosure and accountability.  We have these super PACs that have come into being as a consequence of a decision made by the Supreme Court on the one hand and a failure of the Congress to act in a timely manner on the other. A small number of billionaires and anonymous groups are bankrolling these super PACs that are drowning out the voices of the American people. I remain committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find a bipartisan solution that will bring accountability, information and transparency to our election system.”

Bennet is a cosponsor of the bill and a member of the Citizens United Task Force, which took to the Senate floor last night as part of a push to pass the bill after it was initially blocked by a procedural vote. The senators held the floor until after midnight.
