Bennet Statement on Supreme Court Health Care Law Decision

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on the health care reform law:

“Today’s ruling allows us to move past the politics in Washington and provides us the opportunity to turn our attention to implementing and improving the law.  In many places, Colorado is already driving down cost and improving the delivery of health care to patients.  National models like the Grand Junction health care system and Denver Health are showing the way.  We look forward to having Colorado’s work inform the policy debate in Washington.”

To date in Colorado, the Affordable Care Act has led to:

  • Preventative health services, such as cancer and diabetes screening, for more than 380,000 seniors
  • Preventative health services, such as mammograms for about 362,000 women in Colorado
  • More than $22 million in savings for almost 40,000 seniors through lower prescription drug costs (closing of the Medicare Part D “donut hole”)
  • Health insurance for more than 1,000 children and families with pre-existing conditions
  • Health insurance coverage for about 50,000 young adults who now have coverage through their parents plan
  • Consumer protections for almost 2 million Coloradans against some of the most egregious practices of the insurance industry, such as lifetime and annual limits on coverage
