Bennet, Hickenlooper Welcome Over $40 Million from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for Airports in Colorado

Denver — Colorado U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper welcomed the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) announcement that Colorado will receive $40.6 million for infrastructure improvements at Denver International Airport, Colorado Springs Airport, and Centennial Airport. This funding is made available through the DOT’s Airport Terminal Program, one of three aviation programs created through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

“Colorado’s airports connect our communities and fuel our economy,” said Bennet. “This Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding will help Denver, Colorado Springs, and Centennial make upgrades to improve safety and expand their capacity to better serve our growing communities.”

“Colorado is a leader in business, innovation, outdoor rec, and so many areas. Our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will make sure our airports reflect that,” said Hickenlooper. “These terminal improvements will support Colorado’s economy and drive even more success.”

Specifically, the funding includes:

  • $26,600,000 for Denver International Airport to improve energy efficiency and increase capacity by helping replace the baggage handling system;

  • $8,000,000 for Centennial Airport to improve air traffic safety and renovate the Air Traffic Control Tower; and

  • $6,000,000 for Colorado Springs Airport to remodel the terminal concourse, improve American with Disabilities Act accessibility, and increase energy efficiency.

“Our concourse modernization initiative, ElevateCOS, is dedicated to enhancing not just the passenger journey, but also fostering greater accessibility and sustainability throughout our airport. With the support of funding allocated by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for Airport Terminal Programs, we are advancing our commitment to crafting an airport experience that is inclusive to all travelers and environmentally conscious,” said Greg Phillips, Director of Aviation, Colorado Springs Airport.
