Meeting Follows Senators’ Invitation to DeJoy to Visit USPS Facilities in Colorado, See Service Issues Firsthand
Washington, D.C. — Today, Colorado U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper released the following statements after they met with U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster Louis DeJoy. Last month, the senators wrote to DeJoy about ongoing service and delivery issues facing Colorado communities and to invite DeJoy to join them in a tour of a USPS facility in Colorado.
“For over two years, Colorado communities have told us about the painful delays in mail delivery and gaps in USPS services they face, and today, we raised those issues directly to Postmaster DeJoy,” said Bennet. “Postmaster DeJoy committed to improving service quality in Colorado, and I will continue to hold him and USPS to account for making progress.”
“Coloradans are waiting weeks for their mail. That’s weeks for prescriptions, Social Security payments, and important bills. Today, we brought Coloradan’s concerns directly to Postmaster DeJoy. His explanations were unsatisfactory and we plan to follow up with USPS to make sure the situation is resolved for Coloradans,” said Hickenlooper.
Bennet and Hickenlooper remain committed to improving the reliability and service of the USPS, which Coloradans rely on to receive vital benefits and prescriptions, stay connected to family, and cast their ballots. In February 2022, Bennet urged Leader Schumer to bring the bipartisan Postal Service Reform Act to the floor as soon as possible. After the bill passed the Senate, Bennet urged USPS officials to seize the opportunity provided by cost savings from the bill to improve on-time deliveries, service, and operations in Colorado. Bennet, Hickenlooper, and their staff have worked consistently with USPS to elevate the unique issues facing each community.
