Windsor Fire Department Wins $330,000 Grant

Competitive federal grant will support hiring, training

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet announced today that the Windsor Fire Department has won a $330,000 competitive grant through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.

The program is designed to help fire departments increase or maintain the number of trained firefighters.

“As a fire district that relies on both career and volunteer firefighters this grant will greatly enhance our ability to efficiently and effectively serve our communities and the entire region,” Windsor Fire Chief Herb Brady said. “We will be able to use an innovative approach to support our volunteer recruitment and retention efforts.  Our volunteer firefighters have the same responsibilities as a career firefighter and are key to our daily operations. “

“We’re glad that Windsor will be able to use these resources to hire and train the firefighters they need to protect their community,” Bennet said.

These awards represent round 10 of the competitive AFG Grant Program.
