Bennet Statement on Bipartisan Attempt to Override President Trump’s Veto of Emergency Declaration Disapproval

Washington, D.C. – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today released the following statement after the U.S. Senate failed to override President Trump’s veto of a resolution of disapproval of his national emergency declaration on the border:

“The President’s sham national emergency declaration should have met resistance from every self-professed conservative. By acquiescing once more to the President’s declaration, Senate Republicans have effectively endorsed his decision to raid money from military projects deemed critical by the administration’s Department of Defense—including a project at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado—to seize land from our farmers and ranchers to build a wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for. I don’t know how you can support that and still call yourself a conservative. Our Constitution deserved far better than today’s vote.”
