Bennet Statement on New Colorado Rule Requiring Disclosure of Chemicals Used in Hydraulic Fracking

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today released the following statement on the new rule adopted by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission requiring oil and gas drillers to disclose all the chemicals they use in hydraulic fracturing.

“This new rule adopted by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission will provide Colorado communities and regulators with more information and clarity about the chemicals used in hydraulic fracking. It also demonstrates, once again, that Colorado is a leader in balancing a forward-looking energy policy while protecting the state’s natural resources. Natural gas plays an important role in our transition to a cleaner energy future, so we must ensure development is done safely and does not put the groundwater our communities depend on at risk.

“I commend the COGCC, the natural gas industry and the environmental community for their work to achieve consensus regarding this important public health provision.”
