Bennet Applauds Final Passage of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal

Washington, DC – Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, released the following statement after final approval in Congress of a bill he has co-sponsored to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’  The bill will now be sent to the President to be signed into law.

“It it past time to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and confer dignity and a basic civic right to Americans who have signed up to defend our country.  No longer will well-performing service members be discharged or denied the ability to serve in the military based on sexual orientation.

“It is not only wrong; it undermines our national security and flies in the face of our national values.  We don’t tolerate this kind of discrimination in the private sector, and should not do so in our Armed Forces either.  Our military leaders say we should move forward with repeal, and the American people agree.”
