Bennet Statement on US Marshals Being Sent to Maker of Contaminated Wipes

Washington, DC – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement in response to reports that U.S. Marshals were sent to the Triad Group’s plant in Hartland, Wisconsin. Last week, Bennet and Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) sent a letter to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director Dr. Margaret Hamburg urging greater FDA oversight in light of the recent recall of millions of Triad Group medical products due to contamination and sterilization problems in the manufacturing process.

“Today’s events are a clear sign that the supply chain system for drugs and medical devices is broken,” said Bennet. “The last thing parents should have to worry about is a repeat of this sad situation that put thousands of families at risk, including a Colorado child who developed a life-threatening infection. As FDA reauthorization approaches in Congress, I will continue to fight for stronger oversight for industry, robust quality standards for manufacturers, and greater accountability from the FDA.”
