Bennet Statement on Bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee Report on Russia’s Use of Social Media

Washington, D.C. –  Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, released the statement below following the release of the Committee’s bipartisan report on Russia’s use of social media, the second in its ongoing investigation of Russian interference in our elections:

“Russia waged an all-out assault on our democracy, exploiting social media platforms to sow discord, manipulate Americans, and aid Donald Trump’s campaign. This report offers a comprehensive, bipartisan assessment of the extent to which Russia has used social media as part of its campaign to undermine our democracy, and it includes recommendations to prevent future interference.

Foreign interference continues to this day, and we need to take immediate action to prevent foreign adversaries from exploiting social media to undermine our democracy. Leader McConnell must end his partisan obstruction and immediately pass election security legislation. At the same time, social media companies must do more to prevent, identify, and remove disinformation by foreign actors intended to deceive the American people. The future of our democracy depends on it.”
