Bennet, Gardner, Coffman Issue Statement on Denver VA Hospital

Washington, DC - Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO), Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), and Representative Mike Coffman (R-CO) issued the following statement today regarding the Denver Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center:

"Today, the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Veterans' Affairs expressed deep concerns with the Denver VA hospital project. We share the Chairmen's displeasure with the behavior of the Department of Veterans Affairs throughout the construction process, and we echo the Chairmen's calls for the VA to end their empty promises and make real changes within their agency. Recent whistleblower reports show that the VA is wasting billions of taxpayer dollars per year. That's completely unacceptable and an insult to taxpayers and veterans across the country.

"But despite the failures of the VA, Colorado veterans deserve to see the completion of the world-class facility they were promised in Denver. They also deserve to see those officials responsible for the delays and cost overruns that have characterized this project held accountable. As members of the Colorado delegation, we are united in our conviction that this hospital must be built, and we will work to bring this project to its long-overdue completion."
