Senator Michael Bennet offered the following statement in response to the U.S. Army’s announcement today that they will deactivate a Brigade Combat Team, but through restructuring efforts will be expanding Fort Carson in Colorado.

“While we don’t want to see Fort Carson lose a brigade, it’s encouraging that the Army expects Fort Carson to ultimately expand over the next several years. Fort Carson provides soldiers with the best home base in the country, constitutes a tremendous strategic asset for our armed forces, and is an integral part of the Pikes Peak community. In the Congressional delegation, we’ve worked together and with the community to maintain Fort Carson’s value to the Army and to Colorado.”
