Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement following today’s announcement by the Fish and Wildlife Service that it would extend by six weeks its final decision on its proposal to list the Gunnison Sage Grouse under the Endangered Species Act.

“It’s encouraging to hear that the Fish and Wildlife Service is taking additional time to consider this issue,” Bennet said. “We’ve heard from constituents and stakeholders how important this is to Western Colorado, and we’ve urged the Fish and Wildlife Service to work closely with relevant stakeholders on this decision. This additional time will help ensure the Fish and Wildlife Service gives full and fair consideration to valid local proposals on ways to manage the Gunnison Sage Grouse.”
