Washington, DC – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement on Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s decision to step down at the end of the year:

“Throughout his career in public service from the schools of Chicago to his time in Washington, Arne has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to kids in poverty and to the belief that in this country all kids, regardless of where they live, should have access to a great education. I came to know Arne when we were both superintendents. He was an incredible superintendent and brought that leadership and dedication to his tenure as the Secretary of Education, where he continued to fight for kids and address economic inequality. Arne is a personal friend, and his service and leadership will be missed as Secretary.”
