Washington, D.C. – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement on the Senate Agriculture Committee’s consideration of a bill to establish a national voluntary labeling standard for foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs):

“We remain committed to finding a bipartisan solution that eliminates the potential for an onerous patchwork of state laws and strikes the right balance for Colorado producers, food and beverage makers, distributors, retailers, and consumers. Unfortunately, this proposal doesn’t strike that balance. We’ll continue working toward a compromise that can pass the Senate.”

Colorado’s agriculture sector supports 170,000 jobs statewide and contributes $40 billion to the state’s economy.
