Washington, D.C. – Senate Finance Committee member Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) today issued the following statement regarding Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin’s attendance at an upcoming conference in Saudi Arabia:

“Given the serious allegations that Saudi officials murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Secretary Steve Mnuchin should not extend the backing of the U.S. Treasury Department to efforts promoting investment in Saudi Arabia.  Secretary Mnuchin’s presence in Riyadh sends the wrong message to the world and to the Saudis, namely that the administration does not take seriously the many outstanding questions about Saudi involvement in Khashoggi’s disappearance. We call on Secretary Mnuchin to withdraw from the Riyadh investment conference.”
