Washington, DC – Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, released the following statement on the announcement that a deal has been reached between the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China on sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program:

“A nuclear Iran poses a significant threat to the stability and security of Israel and our allies throughout the region. Iran’s continued defiance has left the international community no choice but to impose new sanctions aimed at curbing the country’s nuclear aspirations and preventing it from building its weapons program. I am glad to see the rest of the world acting in concert to isolate and influence Iran’s dangerous regime.”

Earlier this year, Bennet cosponsored comprehensive sanctions legislation and helped pass it in the Banking Committee last year as well as in the full Senate in January.
