Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) today introduced a bipartisan resolution designating July 29 as Paralympic and Adaptive Sport Day to celebrate Paralympic athletes and persons with disabilities.

“Paralympic and Adaptive Sports Day is a testament to the achievements of millions of athletes around the country,” Bennet said. “Paralympic athletes showcase courage and determination, qualities we can all strive to emulate in our own lives. Celebrating the Paralympic community, which includes members of the Armed Forces and veterans, will encourage more young people to participate in Paralympic sports and build stronger communities.”

Paralympic and Adaptive Sport Day will:

  • Promote opportunities for persons with disabilities while contributing to a more inclusive society overall.
  • Acknowledge the extraordinary contribution and sacrifice made by members of the Armed Forces and veterans who have sustained a traumatic injury and impairment while serving the United States.
  • Support the goals and values of the International Paralympic Movement, including courage, determination, inspiration, and equality.
