Bennet on Human Trafficking Legislation Compromise

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) released the following statement today following Senate passage of a bipartisan bill to fight human trafficking. Bennet joined 98 of his colleagues in the Senate in support of the bill.

"This is an important bill, and it is good that Congress has finally moved past the politics. Eliminating the scourge of human trafficking should not be a partisan issue. This bill will help assist victims and prosecute criminals who engage in these deplorable acts."

The Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act that passed today in the Senate rejects efforts to force an expansion of the Hyde Amendment to non-taxpayer dollars. Instead of expanding the Hyde Amendment to health services funded by fines on traffickers, it focuses resources in the Trafficking Victims Fund exclusively on victim support services and law enforcement activities.
