Bennet Joins Senators to Rescind Trump's Deportation Executive Order

Washington, D.C. - Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today joined a group of 20 Democratic Senators to introduce legislation that would rescind President Trump's Interior Enforcement Executive Order, which risks separating immigrant families across the country and may jeopardize critical law enforcement funding to keep our communities safe.

"The President's Executive Order is creating fear and confusion throughout Colorado," Bennet said. "Instead of issuing poorly written executive orders that raise serious legal concerns, the President should work with Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform, which will strengthen our borders, create meaningful interior enforcement, and provide a tough but fair pathway to citizenship. He should look to the bill that the Senate passed in 2013, which received overwhelming bipartisan support."

Bennet also co-sponsored bill S.274 earlier this year, led by Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA), to rescind President Trump's immigration Executive Order that temporarily restricted individuals from certain countries from entering the United States.

Joining Bennet as original co-sponsors on the bill to rescind Trump's deportation order are Senators Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), and Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hi.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Cory A. Booker (D-N.J.), Christopher Coons (D-Del.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Al Franken (D-Minn.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).
