Washington, D.C. - Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement after receiving a briefing from the Administration on Thursday's strikes on a Syrian airfield:
"While a response to the chemical weapons attack in Syria was required, it's clear a broader strategy is needed to address the ongoing crisis. This was not the first atrocity inflicted on the Syrian people. For years, the Assad regime has conducted heinous attacks on civilian centers and hospitals, and prevented humanitarian aid convoys from reaching those in desperate need.
"The situation in Syria is complicated by Russian and Iranian involvement, and cannot be addressed in isolation from efforts to counter ISIS. Military options alone will not produce a stable political solution.
"Moving forward, the Administration must explain the determination of the legal authority it had for such a strike, articulate a comprehensive strategy, and consult with Congress prior to future military action."
