Bennet Statement on Agreement to Temporarily Reopen the Government

Calls for Plan to Restore Lost Income for Federal Workers

Washington, D.C. – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today issued the statement below after a deal was reached to temporarily reopen the government:

“For 35 days, more than 800,000 public servants bore the brunt of this reckless government shutdown. The next three weeks provide an opportunity for bipartisan and constructive conversations on how to secure our border in a way that reflects our values as Americans.

“Now that President Trump has come to his senses, we must ensure his administration immediately restores back pay to federal workers and gives these families a chance to get back on their feet.”

Following the announcement, Bennet sent a letter to President Trump calling for a plan to restore lost income to federal workers, as well as contractors and businesses, affected by the shutdown.  A copy of the letter is available HERE.
