Funds Will Be Used for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programs in Colorado Cities, Counties, and Native American Tribes
Washington, DC - Mark Udall and Michael Bennet, Senators for Colorado, announced today that Colorado will receive $42,618,700 in funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to boost investments in energy efficiency and conservation programs in towns, cities, and Native American tribal territories across the state. These funds, which are part of ARRA's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program, will provide formula grants for projects that reduce total energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and improve energy efficiency in Colorado and nationwide. As the Administration continues to release these funds to the states, local leaders will have the flexibility in how they put these resources to work.
"This is great news. These grants mean jobs for Coloradans, and they will lead to new solutions to help us save energy and strengthen our economy for the long-term," Senator Udall said. "And the best thing is that local communities are going to call the shots about how we can best put this money to use. This is a great example of the kind of forward-thinking investment in our communities that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was designed to make."
"The more we can do to jumpstart our economy while reducing our total energy use and fossil fuel emissions, the better. These funds will make good investments in energy efficiency and conservation that will create new, good-paying jobs," Bennet said.
