Washington, D.C. — Today, Colorado U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper released the following statements after the Senate confirmed Judge Nina Wang to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado by a bipartisan vote of 58-36. Bennet spoke on the Senate floor to support Wang’s nomination to the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado ahead of her confirmation vote.

“At a young age, Judge Wang understood the legal system’s power to change lives after it changed her own,” said Bennet. “Her family’s experience applying for citizenship made her cherish the American ideal that everyone deserves their day in court, and I’m deeply grateful that she has dedicated her career to realizing that ideal in our legal system. With Judge Wang’s unimpeachable character, intellect, and experience, she will be an outstanding judge for the District of Colorado.”

“Nina Wang will be a judge for all Coloradans,” said Hickenlooper. “Her steadfast dedication to equal justice under the law is needed now more than ever.”

Bennet and Hickenlooper recommended Wang to the White House for the position in October. This is the third seat on the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado that the senators have filled, following Judge Charlotte Sweeney and Judge Regina Rodriguez.

Since 2015, Judge Wang has served as a magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Previously, Judge Wang worked in private practice at Faegre Bakers Daniels LLP where she specialized in intellectual property law. She also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado and was an associate at Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP. Earlier in her career, Judge Wang clerked for the Honorable Peter J. Messitte on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Judge Wang has taught patent litigation and trial advocacy at the University of Colorado School of Law. She co-founded the Colorado Pro Bono Patent Initiative, previously served as President of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Colorado, and is the 2015 recipient of the Minoru Yasui Community Service Award. Judge Wang received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her B.A. Washington University in St. Louis.
