Bennet Statement on President Biden’s Address to Congress

Washington, D.C. - Tonight, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the statement below following President Joe Biden’s address to a joint session of Congress:

“Tonight, the president outlined an agenda that the majority of Coloradans support, including extending the Child Tax Credit, passing paid family and medical leave and immigration reform, increasing access to affordable health care and child care, and creating millions of good-paying jobs to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure. We have an incredible opportunity ahead of us to unite the country, strengthen our democracy, and earn the confidence of the American people by responding to their needs. It’s our job to seize this moment and finally invest in the American people.”

Bennet invited Ambrosia Berg, a single mom from Boulder––who will benefit from the Child Tax Credit expansion passed in the American Rescue Plan –– to be his virtual guest at Biden’s address to Congress.

The Child Tax Credit (CTC) expansion passed in the American Rescue Plan is based on the American Family Act, legislation authored by Bennet and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio)  to expand the CTC to $3,000 per child and $3,600 per child for children under age 6, deliver the credit monthly to help families meet their expenses, and make the credit fully refundable so that it no longer excludes an estimated 27 million low-income children, including 350,000 Colorado children, who have been left out of the credit’s full value.

Tonight, President Biden proposed extending the enhanced CTC through at least 2025 in his American Families Plan
