Bennet Statement on House Republicans’ Israel Aid Package

Washington, D.C. — In response to the House Republicans’ Israel aid package, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement:

“In September, I was the lone objector in the Senate to a budget bill that abandoned our obligation to Ukraine. For the last three weeks, House Republicans have been fighting each other over their next Speaker, instead of governing and standing up for our democratic allies. Now, new Speaker Johnson has introduced a narrow bill restricted only to Israel, and House Republicans are turning their backs on the people of Ukraine.

“As a result of my objection, bipartisan Senate leaders made a commitment to the American people to continue funding Ukraine. Any bill sent over from the House failing to include Ukraine aid has no path forward in the Senate.

“This is a significant test of America’s resolve. This is a moment where the rest of the world is watching how America chooses to lead. The Senate must aid both Israel and Ukraine, and I will fight to make sure any future budget bill fulfills our obligations.”
