VIDEO: Bennet Says Trump Policies Exacerbate Income Inequality Instead of Lifting Up Working Families

Washington, D.C. – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today spoke about the effects of President Trump’s economic policies, including the Republican tax law and his escalating trade war. Bennet’s remarks followed two reports from Bloomberg and the Associated Press citing decreased American wages, despite the President’s promises of relief for middle-class families.

“For the first time in our history, over 50% of children now stand to earn less income than their parents,” Bennet said. “Instead of dealing with the income inequality we have, [President Trump] passed a tax cut that exacerbates that inequality.”

“The measure for how our economy is doing is not how well the stock market is doing. The question of how our economy is doing is whether working people can afford housing, health care, higher education, and day care. And the answer to that in my state, and across the United States, is ‘no.’ We should be working to make it easier for families to afford these important things, rather than harder,” Bennet concluded.
