Washington, D.C. – Today, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet applauded the House Committee on Natural Resources’ passage of the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act, a significant step toward conserving and protecting approximately 400,000 acres of public land in Colorado, preserving wild places, and boosting the state’s outdoor economy.

“Today’s passage of the CORE Act out of the House Natural Resources Committee demonstrates real progress for Coloradans across our state who spent years developing this bill,” said Bennet. “We are now one step closer to safeguarding some of Colorado’s most cherished public lands for future generations. I’m grateful to Congressman Neguse for his leadership in the committee. We will continue our work to move this bill in the Senate and deliver for the people of Colorado.”

Support for the CORE Act

The CORE Act has gained broad support among local stakeholders, including the counties of Eagle, Summit, San Juan, Ouray, San Miguel, Gunnison, and Pitkin, the city of Glenwood Springs, and the towns of Carbondale, Ridgway, Crested Butte, Ophir, Telluride, Breckenridge, Frisco, Mountain Village, Snowmass Village, Dillon, and Basalt. In addition, the CORE Act is widely supported by Colorado’s outdoor recreation industry, including the Outdoor Industry Association, Vail Resorts, North Face, Patagonia, and Icelantic Skis. It is also supported by sportsmen and sportswomen, including Trout Unlimited, Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, and the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.
